Sunim Makes A Visit To Sumilao, The Philippines

Sunim made a visit to the town of Sumilao to attend the inauguration ceremony of Sumilao’s first-ever Special Needs School.

Sumilao is considered one of the poorest areas in the province of Bukidnon. Consequently, children with special needs were being neglected in the face of harsh reality.

Just a year ago when Join Together Society, a humanitarian aid organization founded by Sunim, first visited Sumilao, only 17 out of 75 children with special needs were receiving elementary education. Even for those 17 children, who were intermingled with normal students and were not receiving the proper education they needed.

With the construction of a new school specially built for children with special needs, 68 children will receive an education suited to their needs.

In his congratulatory address, Sunim sincerely thanked everyone who contributed to the establishment of such a meaningful school.

Sunim stated that disability is not a source of inferiority; it’s merely a discomfort. He said that everyone born in this world has the right to be happy and that if people with more comfort open their hearts and reach out to people with discomfort, everyone’s happiness can be elevated.

Sunim also reminded everyone of the important roles that the parents and the community have to play in providing active and ongoing support for the children.
