Pomnyun Sunim’s Day With INEB Monks From Southeast Asia

When INEB monks from Southeast Asia entered the Munkyung Dharma Center at 4:30 AM, Pomnyun Sunim was there meditating. It has been 7 days since INEB monks had arrived. Some joined in 108 bowings with the residents of Munkyung Dharma Center.

After the morning prayer, Pomnyun Sunim explained the meaning of the prayers and how to do them properly. He also explained how Buddha’s teachings were passed down and how Jungto Society members practiced each day.

Soon after, a bell rang to let everyone know of breakfast time. People hurried to the auditorium to eat their breakfast. Residents of the Munkyung Dharma Center have been practicing the traditional method of eating alms bowl meals since its establishment.

After eating their breakfast, Pomnyun Sunim congratulated the 7 Buddhists who completed their 10,000 bows.

Later in the day, INEB monks and Pomnyun Sunim went to Jogyesa Temple. After taking a group picture, Pomnyun Sunim showed them around and explained the history of the temple. At the main temple, they all prayed the way INEB monks do in Southeast Asia.

Sharing stories with INEB monks

Around 4 PM, INEB monks arrived at the Seocho Jungto Society Dharma Center in Seoul. At 6 PM, they prayed and met with the residents of the temple.

They were greeted by young residents singing an acapella. They were also introduced to the social workers working in JTS, Peace Society, Eco Buddha, and others.

Each social worker shared his/her story about how s/he came to join the Jungto Society and his/her roles and responsibilities in JTS. Sunim ended the day by thanking everyone for sharing their stories.
