Pomnyun Sunim gave a speech at Social Engagement and Liberation Conference. The conference took place from October 11th to 14th at Triratna’s Nagaloka Centre near Nagpur, India. It was held to mark the 60th anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar‘s conversion to Buddhism.

Sunim talked about why he became involved in socially engaged Buddhism and explained various activities he’s engaged in such as humanitarian aid, and peace activism, among others.

Sunim pointed out that Dr. Ambedkar was a pioneer in socially engaged Buddhism and that his cry for equality should be a wake-up call to traditional Buddhism; it should raise a profound question among traditional Buddhism as to how far it has veered away from Buddha Dharma i.e. teachings of the truth as spoken by Buddha.
